Official Bio:
Angela Shanté, is an award-winning author, poet, and educator whose work explores identity, voice, and the power of experimental storytelling. Her debut young adult novel-in-verse, The Unboxing of a Black Girl, was a finalist for the 2024 National Book Award for Young People’s Literature and named a 2025 Bank Street Best Book of the Year.
Originally from New York City, she spent the early years of her career teaching K-12, where she developed a deep passion for literacy and education. Angela earned an MFA in Creative Writing from the City College of New York and an MSED from Fordham University, refining her expertise in both writing and education. Now based in Southern California, Angela works as a consultant and multi-hyphen artist, specializing in creative, educational, and culturally relevant projects for kids, teachers, and organizations.
